A Sidewalk Closed sign. Loud, banging noises. High visibility vests. Those familiar with TRU may have noticed these around campus recently, raising the question: what’s the deal with all the construction?
Beginning on March 3rd, construction began around TRU campus for the Low-Carbon District Energy System, or LCDES for short. Essentially, it is a project for TRU to hit zero carbon. Gone will be the days of old natural gas boilers and instead, an electrical heating source will be implemented.

“I was late to one of my classes because of it”
– Kynan Koffi, TRU Student
Although some may be optimistic about this project and its intentions, others may be against its inconvenience. As discussed in the video, TRU student Kynan Koffi has experienced frustrations with his usual routes being blocked, even causing him to be late to one of his classes. He then went on to say he wished they began construction over the summer, when there are less students in the way.

What do you think, Kamloops? Are you in support of this project, or do you think the inconvenient construction fails to justify it? Let us know in the comments and be sure to let us know of any other weird events in the city. Until then, stay weird Kamloops!
