The Lorax: Protest or Hoax?

In a blink of an eye, the infamous Lorax attraction has disappeared off the TRU campus. With his undiscovered remains, only one question lingers…

What happened to the Lorax?

Before the disappearance

Back in early September 2024, the trees in front of the Old Main building at TRU were cut down. Shortly after, a lonesome Lorax figure stood on top of one of the stumps. For those who don’t know, the Lorax is a book and movie written by Dr. Seuss in which a strange creature fights to protect the trees. Since its placement, the Lorax has become a staple at TRU. As time went on, numerous artifacts began to show up in support of the Lorax. Some of the items include poems, artwork and a mini tree from the movie.

In an ironic series of events, the environment activist icon eventually degraded into a site of garbage and waste. Unrelated objects overwhelmed the surrounding area until its appearance mirrored that of a trash can.

The case of the missing Lorax

At the beginning of 2025, tragedy struck. The beloved Lorax had gone missing. It even looks like someone had burned where the Lorax once stood. This then changes the question of why the Lorax to where is the Lorax? What looked to be the act of protest was suddenly shut down with the culprit still at large. Was this an act of retaliation or just mother nature taking its course and with it, the Lorax?

With that in mind, what is your take? What do you think happened and what do you think the original intent was? Feel free to discuss in the comments and be sure to let us know of any other strange events in the city. Until then, keep it weird Kamloops!
